Oil on Canvas
ARTIST STATEMENT
My current body of work represents both artistic technique and multi-cultural symbolism. This southwest icon series primarily focuses on doors as a multi-level metaphor. At first glance, they may appear surreal due to the intense color, dreamlike atmosphere and placement of man-made objects in an open landscape. I provided thematic hints of the history, cultures, ancestry, and religions from this region allowing the viewer's mind to move in many directions towards an overall shared structural concept. All of my paintings address Man's relationship to the greater universe, that is often symbolized by a sun or moon representing the effect nature has on the development of local cultures. All of these factors merge, making us who we are today.
